Featuring: Regina Ress and Abbas Mousa performing Walking the Fine Line: Light, Dark, and Daffodils: Regina Ress and Abbas Mousa will share stories of good and evil, trials and triumphs from their lives, from history, and from the imagination of Hans Christian Andersen. The stories take us from the streets of Baghdad to the gardens of New York City, from the actions of tyrants to the power of individual action against tyranny.
Regina brings fictional depictions of dictatorship and the conquest over bullies as told in two H.C. Andersen stories, both of which were banned by the Nazis, and an uplifting personal story from NYC in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack about the outpouring of resilience and love it engendered. And yes, a story about daffodils.
Abbas will take you on a journey into the past, present, and future sharing what was it like to live and vote under Saddam, as well as living in the post Saddam era in Iraq….a journey that took him from dictatorship to democracy, from Iraqi Civilian to a US Army soldier, and from Baghdad to Washington, DC.
Award winning storyteller, actor, & educator Regina Ress, has performed and taught from Broadway to Brazil, in maximum security prisons and at international storytelling festivals. This summer marks her 30th year in the Hans Christian .Andersen storytelling series in NY’s Central Park. Regina teaches applied storytelling for New York University and is a Board member of Storytellers of New Mexico. www.reginaress.com .
Abbas Mousa emigrated to the United States in 2009 from Iraq through the Special Immigrant Program for Iraqi translators and was granted U.S. citizenship. He then joined the Army National Guard and later received his Master's degree in summer of 2015 in Economics. He now works as an Economist for the Department of Commerce and as a volunteer board member with a nonprofit called Homes Not Borders. Mousa has been an active storyteller since 2015 and has performed live locally and nationally, his story was published in the Moth Occasional Magic book, the Reader’s Digest & featured on NPR’s Moth Radio Hour.
