May I? Maybe. Ask Maia! (or Julie Andrews)

While the month of May is named for the Greek and the Roman Goddesses Maia (you might like to look them up), the verb may came from the Old English mæg, related to a Germanic root meaning, “to be able, to be strong, to have power”.

When Alan Jay Lerner wrote the lyrics to “The Lusty Month of May” for Julie Andrews, what was he thinking? What is Julie Andrews thinking as she sings it? Here she sings the song with some fun photos of that original cast:

OK—have any thoughts for a story? Traditional, personal, related to these ideas, or, you may tell us whatever is blooming for you, “proper or im”, at our StoryCrafters gathering on May 11th. Eight minutes or less please.

We look forward to hearing your story. Listeners as well as tellers are welcomed.

If you are newly joining us, we ask that you take your first session to listen to our stories and to observe our process.

Please RSVP and/or ask questions to both Lucinda and Regina.
